We at SCOT are delighted to share the remarkable achievement of our Past President (1991–1993), Dr K. Sivakumar, who has transformed a lifelong passion for Indian art history and architecture into an outstanding academic journey. This has culminated in an MA from SOAS, University of London, followed by a PhD from Tamil University, Thanjavur, and the publication of his captivating new book, The Glories of Thiruvarur Gopuras.

The official launch of the book will take place on Sunday, 27 September, at the Bhavan Centre, London.

This event is more than a celebration of our rich cultural and architectural heritage. It is also an opportunity to support a worthy cause. Dr Sivakumar has generously chosen to donate all proceeds from the book launch to SCOT, helping us continue our work with some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka.

For many years, SCOT has remained steadfast in its commitment to improving the lives of children and families facing poverty, hardship, and disadvantage. Through educational support, welfare assistance, healthcare initiatives, and community development programmes, we work to create opportunities, restore hope, and empower children to build brighter futures.

Every contribution we receive enables us to reach those most in need, providing meaningful support that has a lasting impact on their lives and communities.

Building on Dr Sivakumar's kind donation, we have begun an appeal for further funds to specifically support vulnerable and disadvantaged children living in the Hari, Vivekananda, and Thilakavathiyar Children's Homes. Many of these young people are currently preparing for important examinations and taking the next steps towards higher education, vocational training, or employment. Your generosity will help ensure they can continue their studies, fulfil their potential, and pursue a future filled with promise and opportunity.
