Project Officer's Report - 2007 / 2008
SCOT has, during the above period, struggled to meet the requests on behalf of vulnerable
Tamils in Sri Lanka whose lives have been disrupted and displaced by war and Tsunami.
Many of the families there have lost their livelihood and the breadwinner.
Health of the children and their education has been a continuing priority for SCOT.
SCOT has financially helped many organizations that are taking good care of children
including orphaned and disabled children in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Credit
goes to Hari Children’s Home, Batticaloa, Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Sevashrama, Point
Pedro, God’s Own Children, Jaffna, RC Girl’s home, Ilavalai and Centre for women
and Development, Jaffna. There are many others who are undertaking the task of caring
for children whom we have not been able to help
The elders in Sri Lanka have been helped through our support for Hindu Samaya Abhivirtti
Sabha, Trincomalee and St Joseph’s Home for the Elders, Jaffna. Women have been
helped through Hindu Samaya Abhivirtti Sabha, Trincomalee and Synergy Centre for
Community Empowerment, Batticaloa.
What is necessary is for more financial help to meet the needs of vulnerable people
back home. SCOT is the oldest of many Tamil associations in England and has been
steadfast in its policies and priorities. While thanking the many members and well
wishers for their support I extend my hand for further help so that more children
and families could be helped.
The total funds disbursed for the year 2007 - 08 is Thirty Two Thousand One Hundred
and Fifty Pounds (£32,150). A full list of organizations supported by SCOT with
details of their locations, function and amounts disbursed is on the next page
